Unable to connect a HP 2600N printer to USB. Some idea?

Installing the printer driver trough USB fails, with a message like “driver was developed later than windows 95″. This doesn´t make any sense…HP support doesn´t know the reason…the USB port works fine with other pheripherals, and the printer also works with other computers…this is an IBM thinkpad (lenovo) X41 tablet, running XP… thanks in advance

I own 3 Dell Notebook PCs and once incurred problems getting them to print on my HP Laserjets <= I have 4 total: HP 4M, 5, 5N and one color HP 4550 and even Dell Technical Support could not resolve problem plus Dell Diagnostics said nothing was wrong.

Luckily BELKIN Technical Support came to my rescue and sent me one page of detailed instructions that required going to CONTROL PANEL, then SYSTEM then HARDWARE then DEVICES and dropping down to USB controllers where you should see one entitled USB Printing Support and hopefully it or any others do NOT have Yellow Exclamation Points <= that signify errors that need to be troubleshooted & repaired.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention sometimes for no unexplained reason just simply switching the cable to a different USB port on your LENOVO Notebook PC can resolve your problem...

If you click and open the USB Printing Support, if you look closely it will say whether "Device is working properly" and down below it will also provide option to "Troubleshoot" as well as indicate whether "USB Device is Enabled" or not...

Sorry for Delayed Completion as I got busy working on a different PC (as we have 6 at home, and I need to change to one of my Dell Notebook PCs and Hope this Info and Answer helps resolve your problem...
