What is the best way to balance a ceiling fan?
This is a fan with a two foot extension, its really wobbling.
As the others have stated, you can get a balancing kit from most building supply, hardware, and some department stores. I prefer the type with a ‘clip’ that attaches to the leading edge of the fan. It’s very easy to use.
When you balance a lot of fans, you’ll get to where you can spot, which blade you need to start with, but its very hard to describe, without actually seeing it. You can watch the wobble, and identify the blade that is heavy / light. The wobble tends to go with the heavy. (This is easiest to determine with the fan on the slowest speed,heheh)
Basically, its trial and error. Put a weighted clip on one blade, and watch the results, with the clip, you can move it along the edge for ‘fine tuning’ – which makes this kit better than the others, in my opinion.
