Cpx Ram

Is Ubuntu a good idea?

I have the option of buying an old dell latitude CPx used from my cousin. The specs are 650-MHz Pentium III, 12 GB hard drive, 256 MB RAM.
My question is would this be sufficent to run ubuntu for now so that if I do like it I can put it on my desktop and new laptop?
EDIT; this laptop will be costing me all of £10.

Yes, Ubuntu will be great idea!! I got my Ubuntu CD today itself, and it’s AWESOME!! Very much familiar to Windows and all………but your specs are NOT enough for Ubuntu. I have
P4 – 2.40 GHz
16GB free space
256 MB RAM
and Ubuntu still runs pathetically slow on it. I am upgrading to 512 MB RAM tomorrow itself so that it will run fine. You can either upgrade your hardware (put 128 MB more to make it 384, or 256 more to make it even better…………..also get a better processor, at least a P-4 with 1.8 GHz). You can however consider using any other Linux distribution on your old system. Puppy Linux will be the best for you.

Can contact with a suspected meningitis case lead to contamination?

My son is 8 months old and spent a few hours 4 days ago in the company of another baby who is now recovered in hospital with suspected meningitis.
What should I do?

Speak to your doctor immediately. The can give strong antibiotics to be on the safe side.

I suppose you could just go really crazy with it and open up the power supply and replace the two 80mm fans with the green ones here.
