Usb Power

Usb Power

Could a USB port be used to power an external device?

I got a digital photo frame for christmas and was wondering if I could power it off of the USB ports on my computer. The rating on the plug says output 5V at 1A, if I remember correctly the USB power output is 5V at 500mAh. So If I connect two USB ports in parallel I should get an output of 5V and 1000mAh does that sound right or an I over looking something which may cause me problems?

Sorry to the others above me, but not really. 2 in parallel would indeed in theory, but is that shared between your ports ?

If you are clever enough to wire in parallel, may i suggest you pop into your pc and connect the red + and black – of a 4 pin molex (HDD and DVD) OR floppy drive connector for a lot more current. The Yellow and Black on the same cable will produce 12VDC. (Just incase you want to power your Nintendo DS from a car charger adapter withoug a car or mains like i did)

1 amp is a lot to ask for a USB port unless its designed for it, or get an ipod mains charger !!

Hope this helps !!

Sodimm Laptops

My Compaq Presario F730US Laptop needs DDR2 sodimm 533 PC2 4200 memory, can I use DDR2 sodimm 667 PC2 5300?

Why is the DDR2 sodimm PC2 5300 memory cheaper?

Go to crucial.com and use their memory utility, it will tell you exactly what you have and what you can upgrade to, it’s neat!:)

Mobile Processor

What is the difference between X2 RM-72 dual-core mobile processor & the X2 RM-74 dual-core mobile processor?

I am about to buy a touch screen laptop and there are two different models with either the X2 RM-72 dual-core mobile processor or the X2 RM-74 dual-core mobile processor. The 74 model is a $100 dollars more, is it worth it? How exactly would I know the difference? I do a good deal of multi-tasking too. So on a tight budget what is the best thing in the long run?

The RM-74 is just a bit faster in terms of mHz. However, you would only see the difference in benchmarks and hardly observe them in actual applications. I would rather spend for maximum RAM especially if the applications you run are memory-intensive.

Antec Nine

Antec Nine

Then what should I put in the Antec Nine Hundred Two?

If you have seen my former question, then you know I’m looking at an Antec Nine Hundred Two. I would like your guys thoughts of what I should put into it. If you can try to find stuff that costs from about $100-$180 please, I’ll be searching to thanks!

You won’t be able to get everything (CPU, RAM, hard disk, video card) for that amount. The Antec 902 case doesn’t come with a power supply, so you’ve gotta buy that too.

Your CPU alone will cost at least $75. Your motherboard at least $50. You’ve gotta spend at least $70 for a halfway decent graphics card like the Radeon 4670 and there’s much better performance from $100 cards like the GeForce 9800GT and Radeon 4850. And we still haven’t looked at a hard drive. A copy of Windows costs $100-$150.

You can build a complete gaming system for around $600, but not $300.

You can get a CPU/motherboard combo in that price range, or a video card, but not everything.
