Inverter Backlight
How can i tell if the backlight or the LCD inverter is bad on my laptop?
I have an IBM Thinkpad R40 type 2723? When I boot it up the screen is kind of dim and pinkish colored. After about an hour of running the screen flickers and goes VERY dim. I can still make out the images, and if I shine a flashlight on the screen I can see them more clearly. Can a tech please give me their opinion?
Your inverter is probably going out. If you have a warranty, use it. If not, it might cost you a bit to fix it.
Matte Laptop
New Macbook Pro, should I get Glossy or Matte display?
It is a very simple question asked many times and I will ask it once again.
I am buying a MacBook Pro
And the only optition I can not decide on what to do is should I get a matte or glossy display.
My laptop will be mostly for school, on my current laptop I get lots of glare from the window and you can get it in the classroom for the lights.
I am guessing that means Matte display, even though movies won’t look as good, I am not that concerned.
Thanks,

I ALWAYS CHOOSE!
Glossy displays provide much better color saturation and deeper contrast ratios but do pick up glares more easily. The only time you’d really notice the glare, though, is probably outside and under very bright fluorescent lighting.
I’d recommend the glossy display because it does give a much better picture. Matte displays don’t glare as much, but, as you noted, movies do not look NEARLY as good. It would be more of an annoyance than you’d probably think.
I have a glossy display Mac and I really like it. The glare outside isn’t even that bad, and I plan on getting other glossy displays in the future just because of the improved color saturation.
Screen Lenovo
Everything on my screen is elongated horizontally. I have a lenovo N200 notebook. anyone know how to resolve?
The setting for viewing your screen are set to the wrong dimensions.
Right click “desktop”, “properties”, click last tab “Setting” and find the size you like best. Use the slid bar.
Lenovo Laptop
How can I make my Lenovo Windows Vista laptop run faster?
I purchased my Lenovo laptop in August & it is beginning to run slow already
Is there something I can do to make my computer run faster? I know I can close processes using the task manager and use the disk clean up. Is there a way to permanently make it run faster? I also do not want to go out & purchase anything, I am stuck with what I’ve got
thanks
1. Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Double-click Add/Remove Programs
Click the Add/Remove Window Components
Uncheck the Indexing services
Click Next
2. Optimise Display Settings
Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Click System
Click Advanced tab
In the Performance tab click Settings
Leave only the following ticked:
Show shadows under menus
Show shadows under mouse pointer
Show translucent selection rectangle
Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
Use visual styles on windows and buttons
3. Cleaner Registry
Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!
Lots of things get saved on your PC that you don’t need. Some are benign. Some slow you down. And some let prying eyes track what you do on your PC.
install Registry cleaner and run daily
